Tottenham keen on Donyell Malen

SSC Napoli vs US Lecce: Preview and Prediction as the Serie A leaders look to strengthen their hold on the summit.

Donyell Malen has emerged as Antonio Conte’s latest interest as Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move to strengthen their attack.

According to Standard, Tottenham are aiming towards bolstering their attacking contingent and have targeted Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen.

Despite having a huge star cast Antonio Conte has visibly struggled to get the job done on a regular basis. Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min haven’t managed regular game time due to their persistent injury issues and another forward is needed in North London.

Malen was on the books at Spurs’ archrival Arsenal but the Dutch international didn’t appear for the senior team for once as he mostly was used at various youth levels at the club.

He arrived in Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven amidst much fanfare but hasn’t really felt comfortable at the Signal Iduna Park and the German side might want to offload one of their unutilized players to raise some funds for future arrivals.

Malen’s versatility could work well for Conte who loves to use his players at different positions. The left winger can be deployed on the right wing and can also play further forward as an out-and-out striker.

He hasn’t fired at all this season and his downward form saw him missing out on the Netherlands squad which managed a quarterfinal place in the ongoing World Cup.

In general, clubs do very little business in January and Dortmund would be unwilling to part ways with any of their crucial players. But Malen’s involvement has not been that frequent and a good offer can simulate Dortmund’s current stance.

The German side paid PSV to the tune of £27 million for his service and given his age and the duration of the contract they shouldn’t have any problem in recouping the entire amount.

The youngster who has been likened to his national teammate Memphis Depay has the pace and technicality to survive the cruel nature of the Premier League. His link-up play is quite commendable and he can ease the burden of Harry Kane who has been Tottenham’s main threat in the attacking third.
