Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly tracking the situation of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong at FC Barcelona.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Frenkie de Jong has emerged on the radar of Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga giants are monitoring the situation of the Dutch midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding him at FC Barcelona.
Frenkie de Jong has been with Barcelona for three and a half years and has arguably been one of their most reliable players during this period. Yet, the 25-year-old has found himself in a difficult position at Spotify Camp Nou in 2022. But while the player succeeded in remaining at the Catalan club beyond the summer transfer window, the uncertainties surrounding him remain.
The Dutch midfielder has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 season thus far after starting the campaign as a backup option. And de Jong has chipped in with two goals and one assist in 17 appearances thus far. But his Barcelona future remains uncertain, with recent reports painting a contrasting picture of his situation, which has captured the attention of Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich showed interest in de Jong in the summer transfer window. But a move did not materialise as the Dutchman was resolute to remain at FC Barcelona. In addition, Bayern Munich had already signed Ryan Gravenberch to bolster the midfield unit. And the continued interest in the Barcelona midfielder is intriguing.
While Gravenberch is yet to establish a foothold at Bayern Munich, the German giants view a bright future for him. And with Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Marcel Sabitzer performing superbly, it is hard to see how de Jong will fit in the scheme of things at the Allianz Arena.
Nonetheless, the Bundesliga champions are keeping tabs on the Barcelona midfielder’s situation at Spotify Camp Nou. However, Bayern Munich might fail to sign de Jong again as recent reports claimed that Barcelona and the Dutchman would soon open talks over a new contract.
Contrasting reports have suggested that Barcelona might consider selling the 25-year-old. But de Jong remains eager to succeed at the Catalan club and will unlikely entertain the idea of departing anytime soon.
