Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are keen to tee up a move for Ivan Fresneda as early as January to avoid complicating the pursuit.
According to AS, Real Valladolid right back Ivan Fresneda is in high demand ahead of the January window. At least three Premier League giants are vying for his signature, along with a host of Spanish sides, as they want a deal done as early as possible due to the defender’s complex release clause.
Real Valladolid did a splendid job in the summer to fend off interest in some of their players, notably Ivan Fresneda. The 18-year-old Spanish fullback was attracting considerable interest from La Liga giants in that period, but they held on to him.
Fresneda is a highly-rated fullback in Spanish circles, and Valladolid did a splendid job retaining him. They also tied him to a long-term contract, with an initial release clause worth €10 million back in July. That figure has since tripled due to a stipulation in his agreement.
The 18-year-old Spanish fullback’s release clause stands at €30 million after playing six times for Valladolid this season. Additionally, if Fresneda is to make 22 appearances for the club, his clause will shoot up to €45 million.
Hence, clubs want to make a deal as early as January to avoid further complications and get an agreement. As per the report, Valladolid have received offers reportedly half his current release clause of €30 million so far. However, whether they accept anywhere close to that price remains the question.
Apart from top Spanish clubs, many English sides like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are keen on taking the 18-year-old Spanish fullback. However, the Gunners could lose Cedric Soares in January and may bring in Fresneda as a replacement.
Mikel Arteta has fortified the right-back position with Ben White and Tekehiro Tomiyasu fighting for a place, but they offer similar qualities. Arteta would like to bring about competition among younger players such as Fresneda and Brooke Norton-Cruffy for a future position.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also reportedly keen, with Jurgen Klopp looking for more players to bring competition to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Calvin Ramsey was signed in the summer, but the manager may look for another option and treat the former as he did with Neco Williams.
Finally, Newcastle United are keen on a player to come in and develop under Eddie Howe while learning from Kieran Trippier. The manager wants an option to become a long-term incumbent of the position and wants the development process to begin now.
Whether Fresneda will choose one of those English sides remains to be seen, as the interest from Spanish giants could tempt him in equal measure.
