La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly contemplating re-signing 21-year-old Spanish left-back Miguel Gutierrez from Girona.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Miguel Gutierrez is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are keeping tabs on the progress of the 21-year-old full-back at Girona FC.
Miguel Gutierrez spent his formative years in the Madrilenian area, initially rising through the ranks at Getafe before joining Real Madrid in 2011. The Spaniard spent over a decade at Real Madrid and was one of the brightest prospects in La Fabrica. But he could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad due to the presence of Ferland Mendy and Marcelo.
Gutierrez’s patience finally ran out in the summer transfer window, and Real Madrid sold him to Girona. And the 21-year-old has been a regular for the newly-promoted La Liga club. Thus far in the 2022/23 season, the Spanish full-back has chipped in with three assists in 14 appearances. And his progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
Gutierrez left Real Madrid because he could not usurp Ferland Mendy as the first-choice left-back. But the Frenchman faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu, with recent reports claiming that the Merengues are considering selling him next year. Such a decision will open up a spot in the defensive unit.
The reigning La Liga champions are thus considering their options to replace Mendy if he leaves next year. And one of the candidates to take the French full-back’s spot is Gutierrez. With the 21-year-old showing that he is cut out to make his mark in La Liga, he can have a bright future at Real Madrid.
But another academy graduate, Fran Garcia, is also on Real Madrid’s radar. In addition, the Spanish champions are monitoring players at other clubs. And one of the options on their wishlist is Alphonso Davies. Meanwhile, a full-back currently in La Fabrica might also emerge as a candidate.
As for Gutierrez, he will hope to continue performing brilliantly for Girona in the second half of the season. And Real Madrid will keep a tab on his progress at the Catalan club until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
