Newcastle United are reportedly readying an offer for Chelsea’s wantaway USMNT star Christian Pulisic, who is a loan target for Arsenal and Manchester United.
According to the Mirror, Newcastle United are lining up a move for Chelsea starlet Christian Pulisic in the upcoming transfer window, with Manchester United and Arsenal also interested in signing the USMNT international.
Pulisic has also attracted the attention of multiple Premier League clubs after putting in sterling displays for the USA at the World Cup. He followed up his MOTM performance against England by scoring the match-winning goal to beat Iran and progression to the last 16, where they got knocked out to the Netherlands, but he showcased that he can be a genuine game-changer for anyone when in full swing.
It’s safe to say that Pulisic’s £58 million transfer from Dortmund to Chelsea back in 2019 has not really worked out, as he has failed to realise his full potential at Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old has just 18 months left on his current contract, and the Blues are considering the possibility of cashing in on Pulisic before the summer. While Pulisic’s recent time at Chelsea has been a frustrating one, he remains a highly regarded talent, with a number of big clubs linked with him in recent months.
Newcastle United, for one, view him as the next statement signing of their project. The Tynesiders have already signed high-profile players like Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Bruno Guimaraes, and Alexander Isak.
And Pulisic would do well to follow the suit and join the Magpies, who have shown to have tremendous potential to become the next supergiant since they were taken over by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.
The Magpies are currently flying high in the Premier League this season and occupy the third position. However, that shouldn’t stop them from further strengthening their squad next month. Toon boss Eddie Howe could look to add to his attack, and Pulisic is seen as a potential addition that will benefit them both on and off the pitch thanks to his superstar status back in his homeland.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are interested in bringing Pulisic to Old Trafford since last summer. The Red Devils have recently terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract after an extraordinary turn of events, but that has left manager Erik ten Hag needing a proven forward to replace the Portuguese star.
While Pulisic is primarily a winger, his versatility to operate across the front line and also in the false nine role has made him an attractive option for United. The same goes for Arsenal, who may be looking to bring in new offensive recruits during the January transfer window in the wake of Gabriel Jesus’ long-term injury layoff.
Per the Mirror, both Manchester United and Arsenal would only be open to a short-term loan move for Pulisic, but Chelsea would prefer to get him off their books permanently and have slapped a £40 million price tag on their prized asset’s proverbial head.
This puts Newcastle in pole position since they are readying a permanent swoop to sign Pulisic, but they will try to convince the Blues to lower the asking price. If they fail to do so, the Toon will move on to other targets, with Leeds United’s Jack Harrison and Brighton’s Leandro Trossard lined up as backup alternatives.
