Manchester United are eyeing a €40 million move for Morocco shot stopper Yassine Bounou following his World Cup heroics.
As per Fichajes, Manchester United are keeping a tab on the situation of Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou and could execute their plan in the summer. The 31-year-old has been in pretty good form for the last few seasons. A move for Morocco’s World Cup hero will cost around €40 million.
Having joined the academy of Atletico Madrid back in 2012, Yassine Bounou did not play a single game for the Spanish giants. And after a successful loan stint in 2019/20, Sevilla finally signed the Moroccan international from Girona in 2020.
His appetite for success coincided with him pretty frequently as the keeper has been one of La Liga’s most underrated shot-stoppers. Bono was adjudged the Spanish top-flight’s best goalkeeper last season. And the 31-year-old has maintained a steady approach this season.
But that has not helped Sevilla’s fortune as they are currently tottering in the relegation zone. If things do not improve drastically they could be in severe danger when club football resumes this month. Such a situation has also captured the attention of Manchester United.
Manchester United’s complicated goalkeeping situation has made the recruitment team hunt for a new pair of gloves. And Bono, as he is fondly called, suits the profile. The Canadian-born goalkeeper has already defied the odds as his rate of conceding goals in the World Cup is the lowest so far. In addition, the 31-year-old is equally comfortable with his feet, which appeals to Erik ten Hag.
Morocco became the first-ever African team to book a semi-final berth at the World Cup. And the onus will be on Bono, who will act as the last pillar of defence against France on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Sevilla will be expecting a sum closer to €40 million for his services.

David de Gea’s imminent position is not in danger. But questions have been raised about whether he can maintain the rhythm in the long run as his passing ability is yet to reach that designated level. Moreover, Manchester United need to offload at least one keeper to pave the way for Bono should he decide to leave the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium for a €40 million move to Old trafford.
