Leeds United are working on a deal to secure a move for Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro in the summer.
As per Fussball Transfers, Leeds United are very much interested in 28-year-old Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro and might try to hijack the player next season on a free transfer.
There has been severe speculation over Guerreiro’s imminent future as the defender has entered the last six months of his contract. He is not contemplating extending his stay beyond this season, but the German giants are yet to take a call on his future.
With Portugal losing against Morocco in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals, Guerreiro will sit down with his entourage to chalk down his future plans. With the January transfer window hovering on the horizon, a decision must be made as he will be eligible to discuss a new contract with a foreign club.
Leeds United could go into January vying for his services. But Dortmund are expected to block the player from taking such rush decisions. A contract renewal is still a possibility, but the Portuguese international is yet to take a call.
Leeds are somewhat short in the left-back section as Pascal Struijk has been used in a makeshift defence. Jesse Marsch wants some additional reinforcements, and Guerreiro could be that player to bail them out. The 28-year-old will also be an upgrade on Junior Firpo. And the West Yorkshire outfit have “put out feelers” over a possible move.
Leeds overhauled their squad this past summer but have not gotten the benefit as they are toiling in the 15th place in the Premier League. Wins in matches against Liverpool have provided them a breather. But the Whites will need to win games on a weekly basis.
Struijk has done pretty well, and the return of Stuart Dallas from a long-standing injury should keep them up till the next summer. But the absence of an attack-minded full-back could hurt Leeds United in the long run, and Guerreiro could fill that gap as it seems.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old Portuguese international. And should they execute their plans, it would be bad news for Leeds as they won’t be able to match up with their project. For now, Leeds United have made their first move to sign Guerreiro.
