Marcus Thuram keen on Newcastle move

Newcastle United could have a clear path in their pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in the next transfer window.

As per SportsBILD as relayed by Caught Offside, Marcus Thuram could don the Newcastle United jersey in January. The striker is in the last six months of his current contract and the German side could definitely cash in on the player.

Eddie Howe is understood to have cleared his January plans to the club hierarchy as he is keen to sign at least a new forward next month. The English man wants to bridge the gap between his team and the top two in the Premier League table and for that he will have to be provided with a sufficient transfer budget.

Thuram has done pretty well and his selection in the French World Cup squad approves of his form this season. Predominantly a centre forward, the 25-year-old is also pretty comfortable while taking on defenders from the left wing.

Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in keeping the player in the Bundesliga by lodging a bid for the player next month. But the German side is yet to renew their interest and Newcastle could have a free way to their destined target.

Newcastle’s recent revival should excite Thuram who will likely offer himself to a club worthy of competing in European competitions week in and week out. The Magpies have managed to shrug off their difficulties for the time being but will be facing enormous pressure as the Premier League giants will try to dish out more consistent performances.

Aston Villa are also in line for Thuram as new manager Unai Emery wants to freshen up his side’s attack and has targeted the player as an emergency reinforcement.

A cut-price deal could be agreed but Newcastle’s current position should bolster their chance to land the player. The picture will be much clear after the World Cup as the player will be able to assess his options. A move to St James’ Park is hovering on the horizon unless Bayern comes back with a revised intent in January.
