Arsenal are set to re-think their plan to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in January as they might focus on bringing in a replacement for Gabriel Jesus.
According to The Sun, Arsenal could shelve plans to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in January and focus on bringing in a replacement for Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian’s injury has left Mikel Arteta short of a frontman, as Eddie Nketiah is the only available striker at the club.
Gabriel Jesus suffered a severe injury during Brazil’s final group-stage game against Cameroon, and the striker is set to remain sidelined for three months. Arsenal fans are currently tensed knowing the importance of the Brazilian this season.
His five goals are not prolific numbers by any means. However, Jesus has lifted the team and the performances to take them five points ahead in the Premier League standings. Losing him for many months will come as a blow for Mikel Arteta in the title chase.
The report claims Arteta may shelve his original plans for the January window owing to Jesus’ injury. The Gunners have been planning to sign two new players in the next window, with a winger and a midfielder expected to arrive.
Arsenal had stepped up their efforts to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk. The Ukrainian winger is reportedly available for £40 million. But the report suggests the Gunners could consider shelving plans to sign the 21-year-old and instead look to bring a replacement for Jesus.
Tammy Abraham is a target for the club, although his high asking price, particularly in January, could prove problematic. Arsenal are also contemplating recalling Folarin Balogun from his loan spell. Those plans may seem skeptical at this stage, as the forward is flourishing at Reims this season, and the club wants to maintain his development.
The theme so far suggests Arsenal could stick with their plan to sign Mudryk and a new midfielder in the window. Palmeiras star Danilo could arrive in January, although those deals have yet to move forward.
Arteta might consider signing a replacement signing if the right player becomes available. Nketiah will deputise and hope to rediscover his form from the end of last season. The English forward has the talent, but he has failed to deliver a single goal in 12 substitute appearances this season.
