Tottenham retain Sofyan Amrabat interest

Transfer News: Tottenham make move to sign Ollie Tanner.

Tottenham Hotspur are looking at Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as Antonio Conte wants to bolster his midfield options.

Eminent journalist Ed Aarons has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the movement of Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who has emerged as an unlikely interest for the club.

“I think, potentially, he’s a little bit what they’ve already got in a way. I think a lot of Tottenham fans want them to try and get a more creative midfielder, but in that system, it’s hard to have someone like that, you need kind of two pivots.”

“But he’s really good at that, he’s got loads of experience as well. I think I remember seeing him much earlier in his career at a youth tournament, and it seems like he’s been around for ages. Obviously, his older brother Nordin Amrabat was at Watford for a bit as well, but he’s very important for Morocco with the tempo that they try to play under the new manager.”

Tottenham are expected to undergo a rapid makeover in the summer. And reshaping their engine room has been Antonio Conte’s major concern. Except for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, none of the other midfielders have satisfied the Tottenham manager’s demands. So another midfielder is certain to arrive in North London.

Amrabat was poised to leave Serie A for the Premier League as Spurs were interested in taking the player under their folds. But instead, they went for a readymade option in Bentancur last winter and then invested further in Yves Bissouma, who left Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.

But the current conditions have only cemented the fact that the North London giants are in need of some much-needed reinforcements in the middle of the pitch. And Amrabat could be an easy option.

The Moroccan international has already lit up the World Cup with some stellar displays as the Atlas Lions has defied every odds by sealing a place in the knockouts. The 26-year-old’s current deal with Fiorentina expires in the summer. And although there is a one-year option clause in the contract, he will likely leave the Serie A club.

Th 26-year-old currently pockets to the tune of £30,000 per week and will be eyeing a new deal which will reflect his current stature. Spurs can afford that kind of pay package, but they will be facing a significant challenge, as Liverpool are also in the queue for the midfielder.

A number of midfielders are expected to leave Anfield next summer, while Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara have jeopardised Liverpool’s plans with perennial their issues. Liverpool have also been linked with a massive move for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham, so Tottenham might have an advantage as it would be hard for the Merseysiders to fund these two moves simultaneously.
