Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a tab on Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, with Antonio Conte demanding a new central defender.
Carlo Garganese has told Give Me Sport that Tottenham could launch a swoop for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, who has attracted severe interest from a host of clubs. Inter Milan value the Slovakian defender at €80 million.
Carlo Garganese said, “They’re certainly looking at him. There are lots of teams looking at him. PSG are the team that are most interested in him. PSG tried to sign him in the summer. They were in negotiations with Inter for a long time.”
Inter Milan are in a spot of bother as they have yet to reach a settlement over a new contract with Skrinair. Time is passing on pretty quickly, and the Serie A club’s set deadline has passed. The Nerazzurri had hoped to wrap up the contract discussions in the midst of the World Cup break.
Inter’s financial condition means they cannot breach a certain wage bracket. And they giants have to convince the 27-year-old to put pen to paper to extend his stay for a few more years. In the recent past, the Serie A giants have not been able to keep hold of their prized assets, as players like Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi left the club to pursue greater heights.
It is suggested Denzel Dumfries, another Tottenham target, is another candidate destined to leave the club. The Dutch international has been deemed to have a more effective price in the transfer market and would fetch a hefty amount for the Nerazzurri.
Meanwhile, Conte has been observing Skriniar’s situation and might opt to test his former employer with a formal bid for the defender in January. The Slovak has already hit the pinnacle of his career, and Conte’s familiarity with the player’s prowess could be a huge advantage in the deal.
Inter Milan have tabled an offer to the tune of a fixed €6 million per season with add-ons which could be further hiked. But the player’s entourage has demanded at least €6.5 million in fixed wages with add-ons to be negotiated. Meanwhile, Inter will demand around €80 million for Skriniar, which might be unrealistic.
The 27-year-old is currently holidaying with his family and is taking time to reach a conclusion. Inter are adamant to have the player as a part of their long-term project but Conte will use all of his possible resources to bring the player to the Premier League. But Tottenham also have Skriniar’s teammate Stefan de Vrij on their radar in case a move fails.
