Liverpool have submitted an offer for AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer, who has been offered fresh terms by the Italian club.
According to Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sports Witness, Liverpool have tabled an offer for AC Milan’s Ismael Bennacer. The Reds will certainly bring in a midfielder, and they have been linked with a few names.
Jurgen Klopp has had a rough season so far, with Liverpool looking like a pale shadow of their past form. The Reds have encountered various problems, and it has been suggested the Merseysiders will be calling in some much-needed reinforcements to improve their situation.
Reports in Italy stated Liverpool might have submitted an initial offer for Bennacer. The Algerian midfield powerhouse has emerged as a subject of interest. But it is not specified whether the club wants him in January or they are ready to wait till the summer when his price could drop significantly.
Bennacer is locked in a new contract discussion with the Serie A giants. And the Rossoneri do not want to lose their prime asset and are expected to offer the 25-year-old fresh terms to extend his association with the club. But the interest from Liverpool will leave Milan in a spot of bother.
Liverpool’s midfield certainly needs an uplift as the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are on their last year of contracts. And they are expected to leave the club in the summer.
The Reds made an emergency move for Arthur Melo, but that has backfired as the Brazilian is still recuperating from injury. Thiago Alcantara’s persistent injury problems have already disrupted Klopp’s plans, and a move for Bennacer would be a major relief for the manager.
The 25-year-old’s robust quality in the midfield would offer a new dimension to the Reds, who have been searching for a similar kind of player. Meanwhile, Liverpool have also shown interest in other midfielders, including Sofyan Amrabat.
Bennacer has been offered a new pay package to the tune of €3 million per season. But the Algerian international is not happy with the sum offered and would put pen to paper if he is guaranteed at least €4 million. Liverpool’s current financial ability would allow them to fulfil his demand. And they might have to make a move pretty soon as there will be a number of suitors for his services.
