Newcastle United are ready to step up their interest in €40 million-rated Barcelona target Andrey Santos, who has plenty of other suitors.
According to SPORT, Newcastle United could step up the chase for Andrey Santos in January and agree with Vasco Da Gama. The Brazilian outfit want to keep the player for six more months, something the Magpies could agree upon.
Andrey Santos is yet another talented player coming out of Brazil attracting the attention of Premier League clubs. Several suitors are angling for a move in January, but Newcastle United seem closer than others. The midfielder is a highly-rated player in Brazilian circles, and a move abroad remains on the cards.
Barcelona have chased Santos for a considerable period and are keen on signing him at the next available opportunity. However, the Blaugrana are enduring a tough time financially and may not be able to cough up the required €40 million sum to sign the midfielder.
That leaves the path open for Premier League clubs, with Chelsea among those interested. While the Blues could come back with an approach, Newcastle United are looking to step up their chase for Santos and agree on a deal with Vasco Da Gama.
Santos has a €40 million release clause attached to his contract, and the Brazilian outfit would want it paid in full. Vasco da Gama could lower the asking price if the interested suitor allows them to keep Santos for six more months, until June.
Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to oblige to the request but may want a deal agreed in January. Financially, the Magpies are in the position to pay the required €40 million amount and have other factors that could smoothen the deal.
Noted football agent Kia Joorabchian is Santos’s agent and also represents Bruno Guimaraes. As Newcastle United have excellent relations with him, that could help them have a smoother pursuit of the Brazilian midfielder as compared to Barcelona.
With Barcelona possibly out of the picture, the Magpies could pounce on the opportunity to acquire one of Brazil’s brightest talents. They are building a good team for the future, and once the World Cup ends, they might target a place in the Premier League top four.
