West Ham United eyeing Gerson swoop

West Ham United are chasing the service of Brazilian midfielder Gerson, who could be on his way out of Marseille in January.

As per Jeunes Footeux, West Ham United are considering making a move for Brazilian midfielder Gerson. The 25-year-old is certain to leave Marseille in the next transfer window.

Flamengo came close to acquiring his service. But Rodolfo Landim, the president of the Brazilian club, insisted the quoted amount was much high than their pay grade.

“We have closed the door! It was not possible! It’s too much above what we could pay. I don’t know if it was an Olympic strategy, but for the price we sold it, we won’t buy it.”

Marseille are looking to cash in on the outcast, and the Hammers want to seize this opportunity. The French club would be looking for something in the region of €20 million. And a deal can be reached, with West Ham ready to pay the price.

The London giants definitely have the purse to spend in January, and a move might be in the offing. David Moyes will have significant backing from the hierarchy, especially after a whirlwind first half of the season as they are reeling. West Ham are just one point outside the relegation zone.

Refreshing the midfield has been one of the agendas Moyes has been pursuing. Tomas Soucek has been pretty poor this term, while there is growing uncertainty over the future of Declan Rice, and he might not be a West Ham player at all after this season.

Flamengo are pretty determined to get their players back and could reach a consensus over his transfer. His mooted transfer fee has been a stumbling block in their way, and West Ham could benefit from their inability to pay €20 million.

Marseille still owe money to Flamengo from when they bought the player last year, and an understanding could be reached between the two regarding the structure of the deal. West Ham cannot wait for their chances to arrive and need to act fast if they really want to welcome the Brazilian midfielder at the London Stadium in January.
