Tottenham front-runners to sign Anthony Gordon

Tottenham Hotspur are the front-runners to sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon as Antonio Conte is an avid admirer of the player.

As per a report in Give Me Sport, Tottenham are very keen on launching a swoop for talented Everton winger Anthony Gordon. The 21-year-old came through the Toffees’ youth system and has been a pivotal part of Frank Lampard’s setup.

Spurs did sound out Everton regarding a possible move in the summer but were put off by their high valuation. Having already splashed to the tune of £60 million for Richarlison, the north Londoners thought the price quoted by the Merseysiders was pretty unrealistic.

Gordon looked to be on course to register his best numbers after a few good matches. But he has not had that kind of influence, and that £50 million price could see a major slash if any team is going to pursue their interest in the talented winger.

However, Everton are not in a hurry to conclude a decision as the player has a pretty lengthy contract running down to 2025. But the Toffees will try to fend off interest by initiating a new contract talk with the English attacker.

Tottenham’s London rival Chelsea had also tried their hands at triggering an interest but were not really convinced by his high value. There could be some serious additions in January, but the north Londoners will have to break the bank once again in to establish a transfer for him.

Strengthening the wide position would be the area of concern, and Conte will look to improve that in the winter. Richarlison has shown his intention of coming back to form with a sublime display at the World Cup. But the Tottenham manager might need to tighten up his squad a bit.

Recent reports have claimed that Tottenham will ramp up their efforts to sign Gordon. And amid their keenness to sign the 21-year-old English attacker, they have emerged as the front-runners to land him. So it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can capitalise on such an advantage and beat the competition for his signature.
