Manchester United will have to cough up a whopping €120 million to bring in Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez to the club.
According to various Portuguese outlets, as relayed by Sports Witness, Manchester United have been told to pay a staggering €120 million if they want to acquire the service of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The Argentine midfielder joined Benfica this past summer from River Plate, with the Portuguese outfit paying to the tune of €12 million to have him arrive at the club. And Fernandez’s price has skyrocketed multiple folds since then, and he has attracted the interest of a number of big clubs, including Manchester United.
Enzo Fernandez is dubbed to be a part of Argentina’s future next golden generation, and his brilliant goal against Mexico in the World Cup further cemented the claim. The midfielder has not started a game for his nation in the World Cup but will be claiming his stake for a place against Poland.
Manchester United are still searching for a top-class midfielder to add to Erik ten Hag’s squad, and Enzo Fernandez tops their list. The 21-year-old has already been making the headlines for all the right reasons, but he is being protected by a huge €120 million release clause in his contract.
The Portuguese outfit are adamant about not negotiating any terms. And when Lionel Messi validates someone, one does not care much about it. The Argentine midfielder can be deployed in the middle of the pitch and is equally comfortable when he asked to control the proceedings from a much deeper position.
The Red Devils brought in Casemiro from Real Madrid this past summer. But the Brazilian can only be viewed as a short-term fix with the Manchester United manager still hoping to get another midfielder to settle down his squad.
Manchester United will also face strict resistance from Liverpool, who are also looking to bolster their midfield ranks. Jurgen Klopp’s midfield options could be shrunk next summer, and the Argentine midfielder has emerged as a suitable candidate. But recent reports have claimed that Manchester United are the front-runners to sign Enzo Fernandez.
But his €120 million mammoth price tag could be a problem for Liverpool as the Reds do not really pay that amount unless they are really convinced by his pedigree. Manchester United won’t be looking for a deal in January, but they will certainly test the waters with a teasing offer for the Argentine midfielder.
