Liverpool star Luis Diaz is said to be dreaming of a move to the Reds’ European arch-rivals Real Madrid one day.
According to a report from the Spanish website Defensa Central (via HITC), the Reds’ star winger, Luiz Diaz, is dreaming of a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid at some later stage in his career and following in the footsteps of compatriot James Rodriguez. But that dream is not expected to come true for the Colombian international anytime soon.
Liverpool are currently battling Real Madrid for the signature of Jude Bellingham for some time now, yet they have another member of their current squad who is also harbouring dreams of joining Los Blancos.
Diaz only arrived at Anfield during the most recent January transfer window, but it appears he is keeping one eye on a potential switch and dreams of Santiago Bernabeu as his next destination in the future.
Liverpool pipped fellow Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur to secure the dazzling Colombian’s signature in a deal worth €60 million, and he made an instant impact at Anfield, becoming a fan favourite in no time for his mazy dribbling ability that gets fans off their seats.
He added a new dimension to their attack. His explosiveness helped the Reds compete on all four fronts, winning the EFL Cup and FA Cup while reaching the Champions League final before bowing out to Real Madrid and pushing Manchester City all the way to the final matchday in the Premier League.
He made a total of seven goal contributions in 13 Premier League games in the latter half of last season. The 25-year-old winger has carried that form into the current season, recording three goals and two assists to his name from eight Premier League games before a knee injury cut short his involvement in the final run of games before the World Cup break.
While he has continued to provide a spark, he has been unable to prevent Liverpool from enduring their worst start to a Premier League season under Klopp’s watch.
Despite having a contract that runs until 2027, the 25-year-old is believed to be harbouring hopes of playing for Spanish champions Real Madrid at some point in his career.
While Diaz’s current priority is solely rescuing Jurgen Klopp’s side’s season, and he may not leave the club until his late twenties, this news will make the Reds supporters anxious, who have already been robbed of their South American superstars, namely Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho. Not to mention, if it wasn’t for Los Merengues Liverpool would have three Champions League trophies on Jurgen Klopp’s deck.
On paper, it is a non-starter and will likely remain a dream. While Diaz has undoubted quality, it is difficult to see how he would fit into the current Real Madrid setup since Vinicius Jr. is already a sure starter on the left flank and is much younger than the Colombian.
Furthermore, it would take an absolute fortune to prise him away from Liverpool, something Los Blancos are not planning to do in near future on a player into his late twenties after Eden Hazard’s failure.
But if Liverpool’s struggles persist and they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season, which seems improbable, then there might be some heavy outside interest in Diaz’s services.
