Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is reportedly open to signing for Arsenal despite previous reservations about joining the north Londoners.
According to Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could join Arsenal if a sizeable offer arrives from the Premier League leaders. The Gunners reportedly saw advances shunned in the summer. Things have changed drastically, including the player’s previous stance about joining them.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is no stranger to Premier League links, as it has been many years since the first stories emerged. The Serb remains a star performer for Lazio and is a consistent force on Maurizio Sarri’s side. Serie A giants Lazio have managed to fend off interest over many seasons but may only be able to hold on for a short time.
The Serbian midfielder is the heartbeat of this Lazio side, and the Serie A giants are not prepared to let him go on the cheap. Their stance last summer may have prevented a few sides from making reliable offers. The Italians demanded €100 million for Milinkovic-Savic.
Meanwhile, Arsenal reportedly made a €60 million bid to tempt the Serie A giants into a sale, but Lazio stood their ground. Milinkovic-Savic was not open to joining the Gunners, considering they were not playing in the Champions League.
Arsenal currently lead the Premier League standings and remain in contention to qualify for next season’s Champions League. So Milinkovic-Savic may have changed his stance. He is now reportedly open to joining Arsenal if a sizeable offer arrives.
Moreover, his contractual situation at Lazio could tempt Arsenal to make an imminent bid. Milinkovic-Savic is open to signing a new deal provided there is a release clause included, which cannot be greater than €60 million. His current agreement ends in 2024.
The Gunners are keen and could make another bid worth €60 million in January. Mikel Arteta wants a player of Milinkovic-Savic’s qualities. Arsenal want to maintain their current levels and make signings that would elevate the quality of the team.
Milinkovic-Savic’s contributions with goals and assists make him a readymade player suitable for the Premier League. Other clubs remain interested in the Serb, but any offer from the Gunners could tempt the player into joining. Whether that happens in January or next summer remains the question.
