La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly contemplating signing 28-year-old Portuguese left-back Raphael Guerreiro next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Raphael Guerreiro is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible Bosman move in the 2023 summer transfer window. The Portuguese left-back might leave Borussia Dortmund as a free agent at the end of the season.
Raphael Guerreiro has been one of the most enterprising full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Borussia Dortmund. The 28-year-old arrived at the Signal Iduna Park from FC Lorient over half a dozen years ago. And he has been a pivotal figure for the Black and Yellows in the last six seasons.
Guerreiro has been a mainstay at the back for Dortmund this season, chipping in with three goals and three assists in 18 appearances. But the Portuguese left-back might leave Dortmund as a free agent next summer, with his contract expiring on June 30, 2023. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
The report claims that Real Madrid might part ways with Ferland Mendy in the summer transfer window next year. But Guerreiro will be a viable target for Los Blancos even if the Frenchman stays at the Santiago Bernabeu. That is because David Alaba prefers to play as a centre-back in the current stage of his career.
So Carlo Ancelotti does not have any options other than Mendy at his disposal. And if the French left-back remains unimpressive in the second half of the season, the Dortmund defender can usurp him immediately. Meanwhile, several other left-backs, including Fran Garcia, are on Real Madrid’s radar.
As for Guerreiro, the 28-year-old Portuguese left-back does not have a shortage of suitors either. Recent reports have linked the Dortmund defender with West Ham United and Leeds United. But the opportunity to join Real Madrid might be more attractive for the Portuguese international.

For now, Guerreiro will remain focused on excelling for Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But his future at the club level will soon come into the spotlight. And it will be interesting to see if he chooses to leave Borussia Dortmund as a free agent before joining Real Madrid in a Bosman move.
