Arsenal, Newcastle United vying for William Carvalho

Arsenal and Newcastle United could look at William Carvalho, with Real Betis ready to cash in on the 30-year-old midfielder.

According to Fichajes, William Carvalho could become a target for Arsenal and Newcastle United in January. The 30-year-old midfielder could be up for sale as Real Betis seek to balance its finances. So a long-awaited move to the Premier League could become a possibility for the Portuguese international.

William Carvalho has been perennially linked with Premier League clubs right from his early twenties. The 30-year-old midfielder now finds himself mentioned as a possible target in January. And Arsenal and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on him.

The Real Betis midfielder is currently enjoying some of his best career moments that could warrant a much-awaited move to England. Despite signing a new deal in September, the 30-year-old midfielder could become available if the Spanish club decide to cash in.

Betis have financial problems and have long considered selling a few players to balance the books. Nabil Fekir is a player they could consider offers for, and Carvalho could join the Frenchman if a lucrative proposal arrives.

Arsenal are mentioned as a possible suitor in the report. The Gunners are in the market for a new defensive midfielder to cover Thomas Partey. Mikel Arteta is looking at Danilo as an option, but it will take time for the 21-year-old to adapt to the new surroundings.

The Gunners remain at the top of the Premier League, so a title challenge could gather pace after January. Arteta are considering making key signings in the winter window and could look at Carvalho’s experience to help them in the fight.

If Arsenal are to pursue the 30-year-old midfielder, Newcastle United could compete for the Portugal international. The Magpies are also in the market for an experienced midfielder to help them in their quest. Eddie Howe knows the club are in a strong position to finish fourth or even challenge for the title with Arsenal and Manchester City.

The Magpies could make key signings but not spend heavily. A decent offer for Carvalho could lead to a transfer battle. Betis will entertain decent proposals. However, there are doubts whether either club would consider the 30-year-old midfielder as a primary target.

Carvalho could emerge as a backup option for either if they cannot find agreements for their main targets. The Portuguese international certainly offers experience and could strengthen those teams. However, he does not fit into their long-term planning. So the chances of the Premier League passing up on him are higher.
