West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Portuguese left-back Raphael Guerreiro from Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report from French outlet Jeneus Footeux, West Ham United are looking to sign the Portuguese international defender Raphael Guerreiro in the January transfer window. With his Borussia Dortmund expiring in the summer, a cut-price winter move might be possible.
Raphael Guerreiro’s contract with Borussia Dortmund expires in June, and he will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from January 1. But it will be interesting to see if West Ham can secure an agreement with the player this coming winter.
The Hammers could look to sign the Portuguese international defender for a nominal price midway through the season. It will allow Dortmund to recoup some cash in January for the player, instead of losing him for free in the summer. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks.
Guerreiro is currently away with his country on international duty and any decision regarding his future is expected to be made after the World Cup. Meanwhile, Leeds United are keeping tabs on the Portuguese defender as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
Guerreiro has been an exceptional servant for Dortmund, and he could prove to be a quality addition to West Ham’s defence. The Hammers currently have Aaron Cresswell as their first-choice left-back, but Guerreiro is a better player going forward.
Although Cresswell has established himself as a solid Premier League full-back, Guerreiro will add a new dimension to the West Ham attack. Furthermore, being able to sign the player on a cut-price fee makes the move a no-brainer.
It will be a massive bargain for West Ham if they manage to pull off the transfer. But they are unlikely to be the only club keen on signing the defender, especially if he is available on a free transfer. As iterated, Leeds United will also be in the equation.
West Ham have had a poor season so far, and they are 16th in the Premier League table. It will be interesting to see if David Moyes can turn things around in the second half of the campaign. The Hammers could certainly do with a couple of quality editions during the January transfer window, and bringing a move forward for Guerreiro could prove to be a wise decision.
