Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea in a deal worth €10 million in the January transfer window.

According to Spanish outlet Futbol Total, Cesar Azpilicueta is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions want to sign the Chelsea captain in the January transfer window. And they are ready to offer €10 million to secure the services of the Spanish defender.

Cesar Azpilicueta has carved a lasting legacy at Chelsea since arriving from Marseille over a decade ago. The Spaniard has reprised every defensive role possible for the west London outfit. And since the departure of Gary Cahill, the veteran defender has served Chelsea as the club captain.

But Azpilicueta has fallen down the pecking order in the last two seasons due to his regressing performance levels. The 33-year-old has started less than half of the 21 games played by Chelsea this term. But he remains a sought-after figure in the market, with Real Madrid interested in a January move.

Barcelona had shown considerable interest in Azpilicueta before he signed a new contract with Chelsea. But the Spanish international will have 18 months left on his deal with the Blues in January, making him a viable target for prospective suitors. And his next destination could be Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti currently has three right-backs at his disposal. But Alvaro Odriozola is out of favour with the Italian tactician and might leave Real Madrid in January. The Spaniard is the subject of interest from Juventus. Meanwhile, Lucas Vazquez’s performance levels have waned this season.

In addition, with Dani Carvajal blowing hot and cold, Real Madrid might benefit from having added competition. Azpilicueta has thus emerged as an option worth considering for Los Blancos. And according to Futbol Total, the reigning La Liga champions are ready to offer €10 million to sign the Chelsea defender.

€10 million seems a fair price for a player on the decline, and Chelsea might benefit from recouping such a sum for Azpilicueta. It will be interesting to see if the Blues sign a right-back first before parting ways with the 33-year-old in January.
