Bayern Munich have reportedly joined Real Madrid in the chase for Son Heung-min as interest from top clubs heats up in the Tottenham talisman.
According to Fichajes, Bayern Munich have entered the hunt for Tottenham Hotspur talisman Son Heung-min. The South Korean attacker could leave the north London club if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. Real Madrid are among those keeping close tabs.
Tottenham Hotspur always seem to have a few tensions around the club and the players when the transfer window comes around. For the last few years, they battled to keep star striker Harry Kane and warded off interest from Manchester City. This time, they face the uphill task of convincing Son Heung-min to stay put.
The Tottenham talisman only signed a new deal in 2021, which lasts until 2025. But there could be a chance for the South Korean international to explore new avenues and play for a team capable of winning trophies. Son has played over 340 games for Spurs, scoring 136 goals without winning trophies.
No footballer gets faulted for having ambitions to win honours and show something worthwhile on their CVs. In Son Heung-min’s case, he’s been exemplary for Tottenham. The team, however, needs to build a concerted side capable of challenging for top prizes.
Having turned 30 in July, the Tottenham talisman may only have a few years to fulfil his ambitions. Hence, he could consider the interest coming from top clubs. Real Madrid are keeping tabs on his situation at Spurs, as Florentino Perez reportedly would like to have him in the Spanish capital.
Tottenham are uninterested in selling Son Heung-min, but an approach from Real Madrid could drag into a summer saga. Now, Bayern Munich seem to have joined the hunt for the South Korean international. The German champions remain in the market for a proven goalscorer. After signing Sadio Mane in the summer, they could eye another Premier League star in Son Heung-min.
Bayern are also in the chase for Harry Kane and could switch their attention towards Son Heung-min if they cannot get the England captain. The 30-year-old Tottenham talisman is a known figure in Germany from his time at Bayer Leverkusen, which may have been long ago.
Son Heung-min could look for the exit door if Tottenham fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Additionally, manager Antonio Conte’s non-renewal may also impact the South Korean attacker’s future.
As for Bayern, Son could be a shrewd signing for what the South Korean might offer. A deal is likely if they can find an agreement on the fee with Tottenham, although chairman Daniel Levy has proved a tricky customer in the past.
