Tottenham Hotspur are chasing the signature of Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij and are ready to offer Davinson Sanchez to sweeten the deal.
As per CalcioMercato, Tottenham Hotspur could use Davinson Sanchez as bait to lure Inter Milan’s Stefan de Vrij to London. Antonio Conte wants a new centre-back and is an avid admirer of the player.
The 30-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will be free to negotiate a new deal with other clubs since January. The club has not been able to agree on an extension and as it stands the player will be a free agent next summer.
The 30-year-old has just hit the prime of his career and he could freshen up things if he does arrive in London. Tottenham’s recent form hasn’t been encouraging at all and they could use a quality defender.
Leaking goals has been a regular affair and Conte wants to plug the gaps in January. Having already plied his trade under Conte, the Dutch international is well-versed in his tactical demands and will work accordingly. All eyes will be on him in the World Cup as the player will be tracked very minutely by Tottenham’s recruitment team.
A cut-price deal could be offered at the start of the next year but Tottenham are also set to offer the services of Davinson Sanchez. The defender has fallen down the pecking order and might revive his fortunes in the San Siro.
Spurs will propose an initial loan for Sanchez with the option to buy for a price to the tune of €17-18 million. Given Inter’s current financial ability, it could prove to be a steal as there is no doubt about Sanchez’s capability.
Conte needs a reliable figure in the three-man defence and with Clement Lenglet also leaving after his loan spell. Eric Dier has been error-prone while Ben Davies has been inconsistent in the backline.
Inter had valued de Vrij at €40 million but they will have to settle for a much lesser amount should they sanction a departure in January.
