Liverpool join race to sign Samuel Chukwueze

Liverpool are interested in Samuel Chukwueze as a possible option to replace Roberto Firmino, but they face competition for the Nigerian.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool have entered the chase for Samuel Chukwueze as Jurgen Klopp eyes an attacking signing in the summer. The Nigerian attacker, valued at €50 million by Villarreal, is a coveted target for other clubs, including Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Liverpool are expected to enter the market to strengthen multiple key positions in their squad. They are looking for new midfield and defensive additions. But Jurgen Klopp could also like an attacking reinforcement.

On paper, Liverpool’s attack looks fearsome, with top-rated stars like Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino featuring prominently. But Firmino could depart in the summer when his contract expires, and Klopp would like someone to replace him. Hence, they are now linked with Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal.

The Nigerian attacker has performed admirably at Villarreal, thus drawing the attention of many clubs, including Aston Villa and Arsenal. If Liverpool are serious and willing to make an approach, Chukwueze could slot into the team and play in different positions in Klopp’s system.

Ideally, he is a right winger, but Klopp likes to rotate his options, evident by how he has managed Nunez and Jota currently. Similarly, Chukwueze could gain the experience to play differently in a top league. However, Liverpool face competition from some top teams, which could play a part in the pursuit.

Villarreal would also demand a significant fee for the attacker, with the report suggesting an asking price of €50 million. Liverpool are not in a position to splash such sums immediately and would inquest into those demands and look to lower the rate.

Aston Villa are keen after appointing former Villarreal boss Unai Emery at the helm. The Spanish manager wants to reunite with several old players like Chukwueze and Yeremy Pino. Meanwhile, Arsenal also remain interested in the Nigerian winger.

Mikel Arteta is in the market for a wide attacker to provide cover and competition to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Names like Mykhaylo Mudryk and Yeremy are mentioned as possible targets, with Arsenal also keeping tabs on Chukwueze’s situation. The Gunners were reportedly pondering a €40 million move for the Nigerian, but he is not their primary target.

The problem for Liverpool is rival clubs’ willingness to pay Chukwueze’s asking price. They might be priced out of the competition if they cannot agree on a fee with Villarreal. Klopp will obviously have other targets on his list, but he rates the Nigerian highly.
