Newcastle United monitor Cody Drameh’s situation at Leeds United, with the right-back, reportedly discontent with life at the Yorkshire side.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United is pondering an approach for Cody Drameh. The Magpies are monitoring the right-back’s situation at Leeds United amid reports of the player’s discontent at life with the Yorkshire side.
Cody Drameh briefly played a few cameo roles in the first half of last season before sending him out on loan to Cardiff City. At the Championship side, the budding right-back produced some impressive displays. The Welsh side named him the young player and player of the season.
The right-back played only 22 times for Cardiff in the half-season, yet he could not convince Jesse Marsch at Leeds over a regular place. Drameh has made a solitary appearance this season for the club and remains on the periphery and well below the pecking order.
He may have another opportunity in January to evaluate options and probably leave Leeds United for good. Moreover, Marsch decided against experimenting with Drameh in the summer and signed Rasmus Kristensen to play right-back.
Newcastle United are reportedly looking at Drameh to approach him in January. Even at St James Park, the young full-back is not guaranteed to play regularly but could form a part of a team that seems like a future challenger.
The Magpies are reportedly keeping tabs on Drameh as an alternative. Their primary target is West Ham’s Harrison Ashby, who will likely become available for the right offer.
It’s not to say Drameh is way down their shortlist of potential young right-backs. Eddie Howe wants a player he could develop for the long term and, for now, become a viable deputy to Kieran Trippier. The England international is a formidable part of the squad, but he may not have a long-term future at the club.
Leeds could also consider cashing in on Drameh for the right offer. The full-back’s contract expires in 2024, and the January window could be the best time to extract decent value for the player.
