La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering a double raid on Girona, with 25-year-old Spanish midfielder Aleix Garcia on their radar.
Jose Alvarez has claimed on El Chiringuito TV that Aleix Garcia is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are plotting a double raid on Girona, with Arnau Martinez also on their radar apart from the Spanish midfielder.
Aleix Garcia has been a journeyman in his professional career thus far, already representing six clubs. The native of Ulldecona started at Villarreal before moving to Manchester City. But the 25-year-old could not establish a foothold at the Etihad and first excelled on loan at Girona. And after short stints with Dinamo Bucuresti and Eibar, he returned to Girona, this time permanently.
The Spanish midfielder has enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season thus far, chipping in with three assists in 14 La Liga appearances. But Girona will be wary of Garcia’s precarious situation as his deal will expire next summer, although they have the option to extend it by a year. Nonetheless, the player’s progress and contract length have captured the attention of Barcelona.
Barcelona will likely enter the summer transfer window next year for a midfield reinforcement. That is because Sergio Busquets is approaching the end of his glittering career after showing signs of regression this term. And the Catalan giants want to lay down a succession plan for the veteran midfielder.
Several players, including Jorginho, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Aleix Garcia also an option worth considering. The 25-year-old Spanish midfielder might not be a household name like Jorginho or N’Golo Kante. But he is well-settled in La Liga and can hit the ground running at Camp Nou.
In addition, the Girona midfielder might not agitate if he does not start games regularly in a packed midfield unit. So Aleix Garcia is an attractive target, all things considered. And the player is not the only Girona ace on Barcelona’s radar, with the Blaugrana also considering a move for Arnau Martinez.
Girona might thus be the subject of a double raid from Barcelona in 2023. And it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants firm up their interest in Garcia and Martinez sometime next year.
