La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly considering re-signing 23-year-old Spanish left-back Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Fran Garcia is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions want to re-sign the 23-year-old Spanish left-back in the 2023 summer transfer window.
Fran Garcia spent most of his formative years with Real Madrid after starting his youth career at Bolanos. But despite showing promising signs in La Fabrica, the young full-back could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu. And that was hardly surprising, considering Marcelo and Ferland Mendy were the first-choice left-backs.
The 23-year-old got his first taste of first-team action by joining Rayo Vallecano on loan two years ago. And after a solid 2020/21 campaign, the Spanish left-back joined Los Franjirrojos permanently last year. Since then, Garcia has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as one of the best full-backs in La Liga.
The player has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 campaign thus far, chipping in with two assists in 13 league outings. And Garcia’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid reportedly weighing up re-signing him in the 2023 summer transfer window.
Marcelo departed from the Santiago Bernabeu this past summer, leaving Ferland Mendy as the only left-back at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal. While David Alaba has also featured as a left-back, the Austrian international prefers to feature at the heart of the Real Madrid defence. So Ancelotti might ask Real Madrid to sign a left-back next summer.
Fran Garcia is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, who considered re-signing him this past summer. And Los Blancos will not have to loosen the purse strings much to sign the 23-year-old Spanish left-back either. That is because a clause in his contract means Real Madrid can re-sign him for €5 million.
Re-signing the 23-year-old might be straightforward as he is open to returning to the Bernabeu. But it is unclear if Real Madrid will approach Rayo Vallecano with an offer in the summer transfer window. For now, the reigning La Liga champions are contemplating re-signing the Spanish left-back next year.
