Everton are interested in signing 18-year-old Sporting CP winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, a target for Manchester United.
According to a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola, Everton are keen on signing Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. The Toffees will face competition from Manchester United for the the 18-year-old Ghanaian winger.
The Sporting CP attacker has made a name for himself with his performances in Liga Portugal Bwin and has a massive future ahead of him. Issahaku has played six matches across all competitions this season, and his cameos in the UEFA Champions League have been quite exciting.
It is no surprise that Everton and Manchester United are keen on securing his services. And it will be interesting to see if they are willing to follow up on their interest with a concrete offer in January or at the end of the season.
The 18-year-old has a contract with Sporting CP until the summer of 2026. So the Portuguese giants are under no pressure to cash in on Issahaku just yet. They could demand a premium if Everton or Manchester United come calling.
Meanwhile, the Ghanaian international needs to be very careful regarding his next move as well. He is still developing is far from the finished product. Issahaku thus needs to join a club where the manager is willing to nurture his talent and give him the opportunity to play ample first-team football. Sitting on the bench at a top club would affect his development.
Therefore, a move to Manchester United might not be the best idea for the player right now. He will have to compete with players like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony at Old Trafford. So the 18-year-old is unlikely to get sufficient first-team action at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, a move to Everton certainly makes sense. The Toffees need to add more quality and depth in the wide areas and manager Frank Lampard has a reputation of nurturing young players. He has certainly proven that during his time at Derby County and Chelsea. Everton have also shown interest in Daniel Podence. So it will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.
