Newcastle United are close to signing South American midfielder Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield in a £7 million deal.
According to Velez Mundo, Newcastle United are close to completing a bargain deal for Maximo Perrone. The presence of former Magpies player Christian Bassedas at Velez Sarsfield could help them sign the South American midfielder.
Newcastle United are ready to make a few signings in the January window. The team have shown tremendous form in the Premier League, which has taken them into the third spot on the table. Much of the credit goes to the players and their manager Eddie Howe.
Howe transformed a side that was in the relegation zone this time last year. As the club’s board placed their trust in the English manager, they were able to attract top names last January. They helped fight off relegation and finish in a good position.
Howe added more players to an already good-looking team, with Sven Botman and Alexander Isak fortifying the squad. Currently, Newcastle United are already one of the favourites to finish in a top-four position.
The Magpies would be looking at the January window to strengthen their existing squad. Howe is open to making additions that bring competition in existing areas while improving weak spots.
Jonjo Shelvey and Bruno Guimaraes are the primary incumbents in the holding midfield role. The Brazilian is the undisputed starter, while there’s total trust in the former’s abilities. Yet, Howe is keen on developing a new player in the position. Newcastle set sights on 19-year-old South American midfielder Maximo Peronne of Velez Sarsfield.
The defensive midfielder has shone since making his way to the senior squad. He has appeared 33 times since the beginning of the year and involved in 5 goals. His ‘elegant’ way of playing is attracting interest from clubs, with Newcastle United among those keen.
Newcastle may have the upper hand in negotiations due to the presence of former midfielder Christian Bassedas. The Velez sporting director could help with the smooth facilitation of a £7 million deal.
Perrone could be a good player for Howe to develop and mould into a modern holding midfielder. Despite the South American’s limited experience, an entry into English football could help him start his senior career on a higher level.
Meanwhile, Perrone’s contract would expire in January 2023, which could give Newcastle United an upper hand in negotiations.
