Liverpool, Manchester United told to pay €100 million for Enzo Fernandez

Manchester United and Liverpool will need to pay €100 million to acquire the services of Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

As per Fichajes, Benfica will not entertain any bids lower than €100 million for Enzo Fernandez. So any clubs interested in the Argentine midfielder will have to pay the release clause in full.

Manchester United have been tipped to make an urgent move for the Argentine midfielder. Enzo Fernandez only joined the Portuguese club in the summer and has taken his level to a notch higher since arriving in Portugal.

Benfica are yet to lose a match this season as they bypassed their way to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages without a single defeat. And they are also yet to concede defeat in the Portuguese top flight.

Fernandez’s rise to prominence has shaken up a number of biggies, and the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool have been tracking him for a long time. Having only signed the player in July, Benfica will want him to continue at the club at least for a season so his development remains on the right track. And Benfica will only let Fernandez leave if a suitor pays €100 million.

The 21-year-old has also been selected in Argentina’s provisional squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And a good run of games in Qatar will further bolster his chances of leaving Estadio da Luz.

Manchester United are still in rebuilding mode, and Erik ten Hag will look to bring in some more names in a bid to improve his squad. Midfield is one section where the Red Devils lack serious depth, and they have kept a stringent eye on the Argentine midfielder.

Meanwhile, at Liverpool, 2022/23 could be the final season for James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita at Anfield as all their contracts are due to expire next summer. Thiago Alcantara’s persistent injury issues have not gone down well, and Liverpool supporters could expect some big shake-ups next summer.

An emergency move for Arthur on the deadline day might go down as one of the worst summer moves in the history of Liverpool. So Jurgen Klopp will love to bridge that gap by signing a player like Enzo Fernandez, who the Reds have tracked for a long time.

The Argentine midfielder has shown every possible quality to thrive in the Premier League, and there could be an intense bidding war between Manchester United and Liverpool. It will be interesting to see if either club will be ready to fork out €100 million for Enzo Fernandez.
