Arsenal have reportedly held talks with Mykhaylo Mudryk, with the £65 million-rated winger a prime target in January.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have taken forward steps in pursuit of Mykhaylo Mudryk. The north London giants have held positive talks with the Ukrainian winger, but his £65 million price tag may prove problematic for the Gunners.
Shakhtar Donetsk rate Mykhaylo Mudryk highly and remain adamant he is a generational talent. The Ukrainian outfit are also holding out for a massive £65 million fee from suitors and are aware of the tremendous interest from Premier League clubs.
Arsenal are in the market for a new winger and unsuccessfully chased Raphinha during the summer. After a long-drawn saga with the Brazilian, the Gunners shifted their interest towards other targets, including Mudryk. But Shakhtar’s reported £50 million asking rate did not fall into Arsenal’s structure.
The Gunners remain in the hunt for a winger, as Mikel Arteta wants to add quality in January. Arsenal are willing to back their manager to maintain momentum in the title charge. And they are looking for 2-3 players to shore up the squad, with Mudryk one of the names on their list.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Arsenal held positive talks with Mudryk recently. It is the most apparent indicator yet of their interest in the 21-year-old. However, Shakhtar reportedly increased their asking price to around £60-65 million, which the Gunners will look to negotiate with the club.
Current Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko has recommended his compatriot to Arsenal. Whether the Gunners and Arteta consider it is another question. Overall, the indications are there over their reported interest, but the £65 million price tag is probably a hurdle in the pursuit.
The Ukrainian winger is also attracting plenty of interest from other Premier League clubs. The likes of Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester City are among those keeping tabs on Mudryk. However, there has been plenty of hints and indications from Mudryk over a preference to join Arsenal.
The Gunners are alternatively keeping their options open. If they can reach an agreement with Shakhtar, a move for the £65 million-rated winger could be on the cards. Other players are on their list, although Mudryk could be their primary choice. For now, the price tag seems too high for Arsenal’s liking.
