Tottenham ready to loan out Djed Spence

Tottenham are reportedly willing to send summer signing Djed Spence out on loan during the January transfer window.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Tottenham are willing to send Djed Spence out on loan so that he can continue his development with regular game time. Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has claimed that Conte is open to sending the 22-year-old defender out on temporarily midway through the season.

Bridge told Give Me Sport, “You would say that five or six Premier League clubs would take him on loan, maybe even Forest.

“He would think, himself, that he wouldn’t want to go back down to the Championship but, if Spurs made him available for loan, I think they wouldn’t have a problem. They’d loan him out tomorrow.”

Spence joined Tottenham during the summer transfer window, but things have not gone according to plan for him. The young defender has played just thrice in the Premier League for a combined total of three minutes.

It is clear that he is not a key part of Conte’s first-team plans, and therefore it makes sense for Tottenham to send him out on loan in January. Spence was one of the best full-backs in the EFL Championship last season. He was on loan at Nottingham Forest and helped them secure promotion to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old was expected to nail down a starting berth at Spurs this season. Instead, Conte has preferred Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty ahead of the youngster so far. Emerson and Doherty have both been quite underwhelming, and the fact that Spence has not been able to secure a starting berth ahead of them speaks volumes about Conte’s beliefs regarding the player.

Sitting on the bench at Tottenham won’t help him right now, and a loan move could help him regain his form and confidence. It remains to be seen where he ends in January. A player of his potential should not have any shortage of suitors.

Bridge believes that five or six clubs could be keen on taking the youngster on loan when the transfer window opens in January. It will be interesting to see where Spence lands if he leaves Tottenham on loan.
