Marcus Rashford on Atletico Madrid radar

Marcus Rashford has emerged as a surprise candidate for Atletico Madrid as the Spanish giants are considering an offer for the Manchester United forward.

As per Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are gearing up for a move to land United attacker Marcus Rashford. The player who just turned 25, is in the last year of his current contract and could be a free player next summer.

Despite all the rumours regarding his imminent future Rashford is considered untouchable by the club hierarchy and Erik ten Hag already asked the club to accelerate a new deal before January when clubs will be able to tempt the player.

Rashford has already proved to be a vital cog in Ten Hag’s rebuilding as the Manchester United academy product has been their main source of goals. He recently hit his 100th goal against West Ham United and would be very happy to extend his association with his boyhood club beyond the current campaign.

The new manager appeared to be not very keen to discuss contract situations in the midst of the season and was quite content with his position. But it is now suggested the former Ajax manager can’t risk losing him for free and has given his approval to secure the player’s future for a prolonged period.

United can activate the one-year extension clause to bide time as they want to prevent any untimely accident as the player will be free to discuss terms with any clubs in January.

Atletico crashed out of the Champions League and are already nine points behind table toppers Real Madrid in La Liga. Diego Simeone is expected to unveil a plethora of fresh new players and their aim is to attract players who are either free agents or are on the verge of being free agents.

United’s interest in Joao Felix won’t affect their current plans as Atletico are poised to part ways with the Portuguese following a number of underwhelming seasons.

Convincing Rashford won’t be an easy task as United would push for a new deal as early as possible. Rashford has shown signs of brilliance and if he is to maintain his form he doesn’t need to be distracted as it could have severe implications on his form.
