Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente.
According to a report from Fichajes, the 27-year-old Spaniard is a target for Jurgen Klopp, who has asked the club hierarchy to loosen the purse strings for the versatile Atletico Madrid ace.
Llorente has been a key player for Atletico Madrid since joining the club and Diego Simeone will not want to lose the player in an ideal world but the Spanish club are under tremendous financial pressure and they will be forced to sell some players in order to balance the books.
The Spanish outfit recently crashed out of the Champions League and that has compounded further misery for them.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in signing a midfielder is no surprise. They have had major problems in the middle of the park this season and Klopp must look to bring in a quality midfielder as a top priority.
Club captain Jordan Henderson is past his peak and James Milner is in the twilight stages of his career as well. The likes of Naby Keita and Thiago Alcãntara have been extremely injury prone and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho is badly out of form.
The Reds need to invest heavily into their midfield and they have been linked with players like Jude Bellingham as well.
Llorente would be an excellent addition in theory. He can play as a central midfielder, as a box-to-box midfielder and as a second striker. His versatility will be an asset for Klopp.
The 27-year-old works hard off the ball and is an impressive presser. He should be able to fit into Klopp’s high-intensity style of football with ease. Furthermore, he is at the peak of his powers right now and he could make an immediate impact at Anfield next season.
The Liverpool fans will know all about Llorente having watched him torment their side in the Champions League a few seasons ago. It remains to be seen whether the Merseyside outfit can get the deal over the line in the coming months.
