La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing 25-year-old Brazilian full-back Caio Henrique from AS Monaco next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Caio Henrique is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the 2023 summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are already working on the deal to land the Brazilian full-back from AS Monaco next year.
Caio Henrique spent his formative years in Brazil and Spain and is eligible to represent both nations. But the 25-year-old rose to prominence in France after failing to establish a foothold at Atletico Madrid. The player joined AS Monaco from Atletico Madrid over two years ago and has not looked back since then.
The Brazilian defender has gone from strength to strength at Stade Louis II, establishing himself as one of the best full-backs in Ligue 1. Henrique has been solid thus far this season, chipping in with one goal and five assists in 17 appearances. And his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs, including Barcelona.
The Catalan giants hold a long-standing interest in Henrique, as they have been tracking his progress for nearly two years. And recent reports have claimed that Barcelona might look to secure the services of the 25-year-old full-back in 2023.
The interest in Henrique stems from the sharp decline in Jordi Alba’s performance levels. While the veteran Spanish defender has been much-improved in his last few outings, he faces an uncertain future at Camp Nou. In addition, Marcos Alonso has only signed a one-year deal with Barcelona. So Henrique is a viable target for the Blaugrana.
Barcelona will look to have a formidable left-back unit for the foreseeable future, with Xavi Hernandez tending to rotate his troops. So having Henrique alongside Alejandro Balde for a few years will set the Catalan outfit up for years. But the 25-year-old Brazilian full-back is not the only left-back on Barcelona’s radar.
Recent reports have also linked the Blaugrana with Alejandro Grimaldo, Javi Galan, and Alex Moreno. But with Mateu Alemany working on the deal for Henrique, it will be interesting to see if the AS Monaco defender arrives next summer.
