Tottenham are ready to green-light at least three signings in the January window as Antonio Conte demands reinforcements from the board.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham could embark on another spending spree in the January transfer window. The North London club could sanction moves for at least three players in the next window as Antonio Conte seeks reinforcements.
Antonio Conte continues pressuring the Tottenham board to heed his wishes to reinforce the squad ahead of the January transfer window. The Italian manager has been in an indifferent mood the past couple of weeks following some terrible results on the board.
Back-to-back defeats to Manchester United and Newcastle United have made the manager demand certain players in the upcoming window. Conte reportedly wants a new striker, a midfielder and a versatile defender. The Italian wants the club to repeat the trick from last January when they signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.
Fabio Paratici has supported Conte since the Italian manager took over from Nuno Espirito Santo last year. The director would be open to negotiating a few moves for the Italian tactician in January if the correct players are available.
Conte would like to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan in terms of a versatile defender. There are doubts whether the signing would happen in January. And considering the interest from other clubs in the versatile defender, Spurs would find it hard to clinch a deal.
On the striker front, Tammy Abraham has been linked with a move. But the financial implications of a deal for the striker could come back to bite Tottenham. Additionally, the Englishman’s previous allegiance with Chelsea could also prove a stumbling block. Conte could have other names on the shortlist, and some may come up in the coming weeks or months.
Finally, a new midfielder with creativity is a dire requirement at the club. Spurs do not have anyone with that profile. Only Oliver Skipp comes close, but the youngster will take some time to become a first-choice midfielder. Tottenham are stacked with central midfielders who are not progressing the ball well.
Tottenham have set sights on Nicolo Zaniolo but face tremendous competition, particularly from rival Premier League sides. The players mentioned above are difficult to sign, and Spurs must make a concerted effort to get them on board.
In terms of spending, Spurs shelled out around £150 million in the summer and did not sell many players. Their net spend is around £120 million, and signing three significant players would be a costly affair, particularly in January.
