AC Milan are reportedly keen on signing Guinean midfielder Naby Keita from Liverpool in a Bosman move next summer.
According to a report from Fichajes, AC Milan are hoping to take advantage of the contract situation that Naby Keita finds himself in at Liverpool. The Rossoneri want to sign the player in a Bosman move at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old is due to become a free agent at the end of the season, and Liverpool have not agreed on a contract extension with the player yet.
Keita has struggled with persistent injury problems since his £52 million move to Liverpool from RB Leipzig, and he has not been able to justify the outlay. So far, it has been a failed transfer for all parties, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool decide to part ways with him.
If they do not want to extend the player’s contract, it makes sense for them to sell Keita in January for a nominal price, instead of losing him for free next summer. That said, Milan are eyeing a bargain move in the summer. The player has been linked with Barcelona as well.
Despite his struggles at Liverpool, Keita is a quality player who has shown his quality in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League from time to time. He will hope to get over his injury problems and perform at a high level consistently now.
Keita is yet to play a single game for Liverpool this season. But the Guinean midfielder is nearing a return and he should be available for action after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It will be interesting to see if the player can impress with his performances during the second half of the season and force Liverpool to offer him a new deal.
But the report claims that Keita does not wish to continue at Liverpool. If he leaves, AC Milan would be a superb destination as well. The Rossoneri won the Scudetto last season, and they are one of the top clubs in Italy.
The Italian champions could provide him with the platform to showcase his potential. Also, the lower intensity in Serie A could be good for the player physically, thus making AC Milan an attractive destination. But with several Premier League clubs also tracking Keita and his situation, AC Milan will need to be decisive with the move.
