Manchester United are eyeing a move for LOSC Lille star Jonathan David.
According to The Mirror, Premier League giants Manchester United are interested in securing the services of LOSC Lille attacker Jonathan David.
The Canadian joined Les Dogues in 2020 and is today a key player for the Ligue 1 side. An out-and-out striker, he has scored 41 goals and assisted eight more in 108 appearances for Lille across all competitions.
David is a full international for the Canada national side and is enjoying a fine start to the season. With nine goals and three assists in 12 Ligue 1 games this season, the 22-year-old is keeping Lille in the hunt for a European spot. To put the numbers into perspective, he is level on goals with Neymar and only behind Kylian Mbappe in the race for the Ligue 1 golden boot.
The Red Devils lack a reliable goalscorer, and it is in their best interests to bring one in as soon as possible. Anthony Martial continues to struggle with injuries while Cristiano Ronaldo’s time at the club appears numbered. While Marcus Rashford can do a job upfront, he is far from the clinical presence that Erik ten Hag needs to make a consistent difference in the box.
On the other hand, David is a deadly finisher who often makes runs behind the opposition rearguard. His pace also gives him that extra edge when up against mobile defenders. There is every reason to believe he could thrive in a fluid frontline alongside Jadon Sancho and Antony among others.
The Lille star is not the only forward on Man United’s radar. Others on the wishlist include Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick and Olympique Lyon’s Moussa Dembele. While Felix is the standout name on the list, David could feature prominently if he continues to rack up goals for the remainder of the season.
Unter Ten Hag, the Red Devils finally appear to have a direction on the field. The arrival of Antony and Christian Eriksen has spruced up the Red Devils’ attack. However, they are far from the finished article and will need a few more key additions. Bringing in a striker will be all the more crucial once Ronaldo departs, sooner or later.
