Real Betis retain Dani Ceballos interest

La Liga giants Real Betis are reportedly keen on re-signing Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid in the 2023 summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dani Ceballos is the subject of interest from Real Betis over a move in the 2023 summer transfer window. The Andalusian giants want to re-sign the Real Madrid midfielder if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Dani Ceballos spent his formative years with Andalusian clubs, starting at Sevilla before graduating from the Real Betis academy. The 26-year-old was once one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Spain. And it was hardly surprising when Real Madrid snapped him up half a decade ago. But Ceballos has failed to progress much in the last five years.

A two-year loan stint with Arsenal produced mixed results, and an ankle injury wasted the 2021/22 season. Ceballos has not had a memorable 2022/23 campaign thus far either, starting only two games before picking up an injury. And with his contract expiring next summer, former club Real Betis might emerge as a contender for his signature.

Real Betis wanted to sign Ceballos in the summer transfer window, but a move did not materialise. The Spanish international ultimately ended up remaining at Real Madrid, which has backfired. But returning to his former club in a Bosman move might be an attractive idea, especially if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Andres Guardado is in the twilight of his career, while Guido Rodriguez has emerged on the radars of several high-profile clubs. So Real Betis will have to invest in a central midfielder next summer, making Ceballos a viable target.

Recent reports have claimed that the 26-year-old is reluctant to sign a new contract with Real Madrid. So he will likely depart from the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent unless he leaves in the January transfer window. And Ceballos might succeed in rediscovering his best form if he rejoins Real Betis.

But a move for Ceballos, and some other targets, might only materialise if Los Verdiblancos clinch Champions League qualification. So it will be interesting to see if the Spanish midfielder returns to his former club if he leaves Real Madrid next summer.
