Manchester United are considering a move for Moussa Dembele as Erik ten Hag looks for attacking reinforcements in January.
According to Daily Mirror, Erik ten Hag may target a cut-price move for Moussa Dembele in January as Manchester United look for attacking reinforcements. Bringing in a new striker is important following the troubles with Cristiano Ronaldo. And the Lyon forward is one of the options under consideration, although a move would depend on his ability to fit stylistically.
Erik ten Hag could safely assume he has revitalised Manchester United in the short term after a few impressive results. But the Dutch manager’s long-term objective will need plenty of support from the club’s board, including bringing the right players in.
Manchester United’s immediate requirement would be a new striker amid the troubles with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese international stirred a storm after walking out during the clash with Tottenham. He got dropped from the squad for the Chelsea game, placing his Manchester United future in doubt.
Chelsea have again been linked with the striker, but Graham Potter reportedly prefers Rafael Leao instead of Ronaldo. One way or another, Ronaldo could leave Manchester United, which may prompt the club to look for a replacement.
Joao Felix is also a possible option, but a move could prove difficult amid competition from PSG and others. Moreover, the report claims ten Hag wants an outright goalscorer, which may not be Felix’s actual profile.
Lyon’s 26-year-old French striker Moussa Dembele has thus emerged as an option for ten Hag. And Manchester United are keen to understand how they can broker a move. Dembele has faced difficulties in recent seasons, and currently, he is in the last year of his contract with the Ligue 1 giants.
Lyon could accept a cut-price deal in January. Otherwise, they will lose the 26-year-old French striker on a free transfer in the summer. Dembele rejected many offers from the Premier League, possibly intending to sign for a big club elsewhere.
Manchester United would be a major step up for the 26-year-old French striker. While Dembele failed to make the grade at Atletico Madrid, he will hope to revive his career at Old Trafford. His numbers have not been great this season, scoring twice in nine games.

Ten Hag reportedly prefers a proper striker to lead the line and may have doubts about Felix. The Manchester United boss has more than enough creative players in the side, which would point towards a move for a player like the 26-year-old striker.
