Manchester United prepared to pay €80 million to sign Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United are reportedly ready to invest €80 million in Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester United continue to monitor the situation of Frenkie de Jong and will target him once again next summer. The Red Devils are ready to fork out €80 million to sign the Barcelona midfielder.

Frenkie de Jong remained Manchester United’s focal point of interest throughout the summer. But Erik ten Hag’s long pursuit of his former disciple ended in utter disappointment.

Manchester United brought in Christian Eriksen and Casemiro to tighten their midfield loopholes. But both of them offer a very different kind of qualities than the Barcelona midfielder. The lure of the UEFA Champions League held the player back at Camp Nou. But it kind of backfired as the Catalan giants are on the verge of getting demoted to the Europa League.

Their recent El Clasico loss to Real Madrid also has had severe effects on de Jong’s future plans, and he might have a change of heart next summer. Manchester United did reach an €85 million agreement with Barcelona this summer but failed to reach an agreement with the player.

There have been severe rumours as de Jong has been touted as the highest-paid player at Camp Nou. But the 25-year-old has called out the lies, although he is entitled to receive a large amount of his deferred salary.

Despite the arrival of two majestic midfielders that x-factor is still missing in Manchester United’s gameplay. And signing the former Ajax midfielder could resolve the situation, thus explaining the Red Devils’ interest. The report claims Manchester United could shell out in the region of €80 million to bring de Jong to England.

A press-resistant midfielder, de Jong has the ability to pull the strings with his visionary passing. And his presence on the pitch will also allow the other midfielders to roam with more freedom.

A deal in January for the Barcelona midfielder deems impossible. But should Manchester United qualify for the Champions League, sufficient funds will be available the next summer as ten Hag is building his own brand of football. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils will be lucky at the second time of asking.
