Serie A giants AS Roma are reportedly keen on signing Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid, possibly in the January transfer window.
According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, AS Roma will likely enter the market for a midfielder in the January transfer window. Real Madrid outcast Dani Ceballos is one of the players on the Serie A giants’ wishlist.
Dani Ceballos has failed to fulfil his potential since joining Real Madrid from Real Betis half a decade ago. The 26-year-old was one of the most promising midfielders in Europe back then. But his stock has fallen considerably in the last five years, with a loan stint at Arsenal not helping his case either.
Ceballos returned to Real Madrid last season, but an ankle injury disrupted his campaign. And the Spaniard remains a bit-part player for Los Blancos this term, managing only 177 minutes of game time thus far. But Ceballos remains a popular figure in the market, with AS Roma keen on signing him.
The Serie A giants have not had the bright start to the season they envisioned in the summer. Jose Mourinho’s charges are currently sixth on the league table while also lagging behind in the UEFA Europa League. But with Napoli just four points ahead, AS Roma can bridge the gap by May.

📌 The 🟡🔴 would like to buy a reinforcement already in January: it won't be easy but they will work to do that. 🐓⚽ @Romagialloross4 pic.twitter.com/x2z5SX1JrN

Mourinho thus wants the Giallorossi to delve into the market for a midfielder. Indeed, with Georginio Wijnaldum being a long-term absentee, AS Roma will need a new midfielder. Ceballos is thus a viable target for Roma, with other players also on their radar.
The Spaniard is in the final year of his Real Madrid contract, and a cut-price deal will be possible in January. And with recent reports claiming that Ceballos is uninterested in signing a new contract, the Serie A giants will fancy their chances.

Meanwhile, the other players on AS Roma’s wishlist are Douglas Luiz and Houssem Aouar. But Ceballos might be the most approachable player for the Giallorossi. It will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old finally leaves Real Madrid in the January transfer window.
