Liverpool have set their eyes on Anderlecht defender Zeno Debast who also happens to be on the wish list of Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool are reportedly planning to recruit a central defender and Belgium youngster Zeno Debast is on their radar. The 18-year-old hogged the limelight as he earned a maiden call-up to the UEFA Nations League a few days ago.
The Reds have endured a tough start to the current season and are languishing in the 10th place in the Premier League. The defence hasn’t played its part properly and the role of Virgil van Dijk has been under severe scanner.
The 31-year-old proved to be a shadow of his glorious past and has found it difficult to maintain the momentum this season. Added to that, the likes of Joe Gomez haven’t been consistent this time and a glaring void in the back could spoil their plans.
Debast has shown immense maturity while marshalling the backline for his country and he remains one of the hottest prospects in the European circuit. The youngster has three years left on his current deal but given his recent promotions, the Belgian club is ready to fend off interests by offering him fresh terms.
Belgium manager Roberto Martinez showered praises on the player and he could be on his way to the first World Cup. Depending on his performance in the World Cup his value could be determined.
Anderlecht will try to stick to their stance but should a call from Liverpool arrive it would be difficult to ignore the opportunity. Borussia Dortmund are also open to welcoming the player with open arms and he can form a formidable partnership with Nico Schlotterbeck in years to come.
Liverpool are willing to undergo a rapid overhaul next summer as a number of first-team players could be seen leaving Anfield. Klopp who signed a contract extension this year will rather fancy a fresh challenge next season as it is pretty impossible to bridge the gap between them and the top three this time.
