According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a strict watch on Nicola Zalewski and might be tempted to make the first move for the 20-year-old AS Roma midfield sensation.
Zalewski came through the ranks at Serie A club AS Roma and caught the attention of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese tactician, who does not really have a reputation for nurturing young talents, has emerged as his father figure on the pitch.
Zalewski burst onto the scene last term and has continued his stride this season, too. And Mourinho has sporadically used the 20-year-old Italian midfield sensation so far.
With a few injuries curtailing Mourinho’s options, the Polish international has come to the rescue of the AS Roma boss and has produced a decent cameo in some matches. And his exploits have captured the attention of Tottenham.
Zalewski’s versatility might be one of the reasons why Antonio Conte wants him to be his surprise package at Tottenham. The 20-year-old was born in Italy but chose to switch his allegiance to Poland and will be one of the hottest prospects travelling to the 2022 FIFA World Cup this year.
The Polish midfield sensation has more than three years left on his current AS Roma contract. But the Serie A giants aware of his ability and want to offer him fresh terms to protect their prized asset.
Paris Saint-Germain are also circling for his signature, and the player might witness some serious interest next summer. From defence to midfield, the player has demonstrated his utility in every possible position. And his emergence could hand Roma a possible future superstar if he is given the care properly.
Tottenham do have a pretty envious squad, but Zalewski’s numbers are impressive, given his tender age.
