Joao Felix has reportedly been linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid, and cross-town rivals Real Madrid are keeping tabs on him.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid are looking to make a move for Portuguese international Joao Felix at the end of the season. The report claims that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti likes the Atletico Madrid attacker, and Los Blancos could make their move in 2023.
Apparently, the reigning La Liga champions are keen on adding more quality and depth to their attack. And after failing to sign Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the summer, Real Madrid could now turn their attention towards Felix.
The 22-year-old Atletico Madrid forward has not been able to justify his massive transfer fee since joining Los Rojiblancos. It will be interesting to see if Atletico Madrid are willing to cut their losses on Felix.
Diego Simeone’s side paid a club record fee of around €128 million for the talented young attacker. But Felix has been quite inconsistent since his move from Portugal. However, he is a prodigious talent who could develop into a world-class player in future. Perhaps, he needs a fresh start right now, and move away to Real Madrid could be ideal for him.
Joining cross-town rivals Real Madrid will not be an easy transfer by any means, and Atletico might look to demand a premium if Los Blancos come calling. Furthermore, a move to Real Madrid might not guarantee regular first-team action for the player either. Karim Benzema, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior are likely to be ahead of Felix in the pecking order.
The trio seemed to be in fine touch when Real Madrid beat Shakhtar Donetsk this week. So it will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks, and whether Real Madrid follow up on their interest with a concrete offer in 2023.
The 22-year-old has a contract until the summer of 2026, and Atletico Madrid will look to recoup as much as they can. Felix has made a decent start to the new season, picking up three assists in seven league games so far.
