Arsenal have reportedly established contact with the representatives of Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jesper Lindstrom over a potential transfer in the winter window.
Arsenal have reportedly identified Eintracht Frankfurt’s versatile midfielder Jesper Lindstrom as their priority target to bolster their midfield in the next January transfer window. That’s according to German outlet Bild, which claims the Premier League side have approached the representatives of the 22-year-old in a bid to bring him to the Emirates during the winter transfer window.
Despite the fact that it is not even a month after the closure of a frenetic summer transfer window, clubs across the continent are already scouring for top talents and potential options to improve their squad when the January window rolls around.
This looks to be the case for the current Premier League leaders, Arsenal. Nicolas Pepe left to join OGC Nice on loan in the summer after failing to make an impression at the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners failed to secure a replacement despite being linked to a host of wingers last summer.
Now the North London outfit are said to be looking to capture Lindstrom when the transfer window reopens next year, and have already initiated contact over a possible move midway through the season.
The 22-year-old only arrived in Germany in the summer of 2021 for a fee of around €7 million from Brondby IF. Despite his form fluctuating at the start of his tenure, the youngster enjoyed a decent debut campaign at Deutsche Bank Park, winning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award after scoring five goals and registering as many assists in 29 league appearances.
He also helped his side in their historic Europa League triumph last term, notching up four assists along the way. Lindstrom has already scored three goals in ten games for Frankfurt this season and hit the newspapers after scoring the only goal of the game in Tuesday’s triumph over Marseille, which was the Eagles’ first ever win in the Champions League group stage.
Hence, it is no surprise that Arsenal and other clubs are competing for his signature. Lindstrom could be a viable option for the Gunners, who may be priced out of a deal for Ukrainian talent Mykhaylo Mudryk with the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool joining the race for the €50 million-rated winger.
The 22-year-old prefers to play in the more advanced midfielder position, but the Gunners already have enough talent there. However, he has been utilised on either flank by head coach Oliver Glasner this campaign, with his versatility, skills, and work ethic drawing the attention of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The Denmark international still has four years remaining on his current contract with Die Adler and is valued at £17 million by his current club. So, he would be a relatively cheap and smart pick-up for the Gunners if they decide to ramp up their interest.
