Leeds United are closing in on signing Bamba Dieng from Marseille in a €10 million deal, with the 22-year-old now set to agree on personal terms.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds United are set to agree to a €10 million move for Bamba Dieng, with talks on personal terms also progressing well. The move transpired after they were dealt a blow in pursuing top target Cody Gakpo.
Bamba Dieng is set to experience Premier League football as Leeds United are on the verge of bringing the 22-year-old Ligue 1 forward to England. The Marseille attacker has two years left on his current contract with the Ligue 1 giants, with the two clubs inching closer to an agreement.
Dieng has been on the radar of many English clubs this summer, although no move has transpired so far in the window. Leeds United were not particularly interested in signing him until today, after things developed with their primary target Cody Gakpo.
Leeds were dealt a blow in their pursuit of Gakpo after PSV refused to sell the Dutch international. Jesse Marsch continued looking for attacking reinforcements, leading the path towards Dieng. But any move for the winger will have to be postponed until January, after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Dieng is reportedly available for a departure from Marseille as the French giants are willing to cash in on him before the deadline. Leeds United are also progressing well to agree on personal terms with the player.
Leeds United have now had a €10 million bid accepted by Marseille, which includes add-ons. The Whites reportedly wanted Hwang Hee-chan of Wolves, but that move could have been unattainable. Dieng will likely soon fly to England to complete his medicals and other formalities to conclude the deal.
It will be interesting to see whether Leeds can field Dieng for the weekend’s clash against Brentford. The 22-year-old could be a good signing, who could become one of their main attackers in the years to come, and considering the €10 million fee, it could be a bargain in the current market.
As we inch closer to the transfer deadline, there could be some enjoyable few hours on the cards. Whether the €10 million deal leads to more changes to Marsch’s side remains to be seen. For instance, Tottenham’s move for Dan James stalled due to Leeds’s inability to find an agreement with PSV for Gakpo.
