Newly promoted Fulham are considering a late summer move for Marseille star Bamba Dieng.
According to 90min, Fulham are pondering a late move to sign Olympique Marseille forward Bamba Dieng in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
The Cottagers are enjoying a good start to life in the Premier League, securing five points from their first three games. Aleksandr Mitrovic has impressed but Marco Silva’s side could do with an attacking reinforcement.
Fulham are in the market for another forward and were close to landing Dutch youngster Justin Kluivert. However, the deal has fallen through after he was refused a work permit. The Londoners have now turned their attention to Ligue 1 star Bamba Dieng.
The 22-year-old is one of the best young talents in the French top flight and could prove to be an excellent long-term addition. The Cottagers are currently in talks with Marseille with Everton also in the fray. With both teams likely to be involved in the relegation dogfight, whoever comes out on top in this transfer race could be handed a boost in terms of attacking personnel.
Marseille are ready to do business for €15 million, a reasonable price given the Senegalese international’s potential. Given his age, Fulham would be getting themselves a player who could lead the line for years to come. They are overly reliant on Mitrovic for goals and having an alternative is always handy.
While the move for Kluivert is far from done, time is precious with just hours to go before the summer transfer window draws to a close. Unless a resolution can be reached, it makes sense for the Londoners to pursue a player who might prove more attainable.
Dieng is not just a good finisher but also a willing runner ready to put in the hard work. This will come in handy, given Fulham’s offensive style of playing football. The 22-year-old’s passing ability does need improvement and he is far from the finished product. Silva has a history of developing young talent and the Senegalese striker could be his latest pet project.
With just under a day to go before the summer window slams shut, it will be curious to see who Fulham end up with – Kluivert or Dieng. Either way, they will be landing themselves one of the best young forwards in Europe.
