Everton are reportedly keen on landing Manchester United starlet Anthony Elanga on loan this summer.
According to Daily Mail, Manchester United attacker, Anthony Elanga is attracting attention from Everton as we head into the final few days of the 2022 summer transfer window.
The Toffees have endured a difficult start to the campaign, picking up just one point from their first three games. Everton also made difficult work of the Carabao Cup second-round tie against Fleetwood Town, eventually running out 1-0 winners on the night.
Frank Lampard’s side will need to roll up their socks and get better unless they want to once again be embroiled in a relegation dogfight. Having lost Richarlison, Everton need to bring in an attacker this summer. The requirement could become more of a necessity should Anthony Gordon also leave.
The 21-year-old is heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and is keen on the idea of swapping Merseyside for London. Should that happen, Everton will be without the two key players who helped them stave off relegation last season. With just days to go before the transfer window shuts, there is little time for Lampard and co. to hunt for a permanent replacement.
The loan market could provide Everton with a solution, and they have since zeroed in on Elanga. The young Swede is enjoying a fine run of games at Old Trafford and continues to be relied upon by Erik ten Hag. That could, however, change should Manchester United land Ajax star Antony.
Elanga is at a stage of his career where he needs to be playing week in and week out to accelerate his development. That will be far from a given once Antony joins and could lead to the young Swede stagnating at Manchester United.
Everton, in many ways, could be landing a player who is not just capable of replacing Gordon but is also at an improved state of development in comparison to the Englishman. Elanga will also be keen to prove a point and will not be shy about putting in the hard work.
This should hold the Manchester United attacker in good stead given that Everton cannot afford to take results for granted. A lot could depend on whether the Red Devils land Antony. Letting Elanga leave without bringing in the Brazilian will leave ten Hag short of options.
